The United Kingdom Bartitsu Alliance 'mission statement' includes this;
'UKBA seeks to continue and expand the recognition and legitimisation of the Victorian martial art of Bartitsu, in its historical context, as both a competition sport and combat art.'
I can see some people (down the line) being interested in Bartitsu competition (and 'competitive Bartitsu', which isn't EXACTLY the same thing...!).
The original members of the Bartitsu club competed in their respective arts, did they not? (And some in 'mixed' matches, too).
It could be kept at semi-contact for those who wanted that; with honest challenge matches for the toughies! Emoticono smile

Self defence and sport must be kept as different subjects,
but competitive sports were the life blood that fed Bartitsu!
Boxing, jujitsu, wrestling, cane.
How about THAT for four separate 'disciplines'?!
Anyone affiliated to the Bartitsu 'community' could get involved (or not), on whatever level they wanted;
They could compete/test themselves in any of the separate disciplines they wanted- either semi or full contact, or in ALL of the disciplines, and even in a 'mixed' category with 'all-in' rules! Emoticono smile

'Competitive Bartitsu' would be generally more about FUN, and allow people to 'get their bodies moving' and enjoy some friendly competition, but could also allow other people to REALLY SEE WHAT THEY AND THEIR SKILLS ARE MADE OF, if that's their interest and they're ready for it (under strict rules and supervision).
My suggestion would be that these events, whether within individual clubs/groups or as a wider 'get together', should be open only to people with a demonstrable affiliation with other Bartitsu aficionados and to the historical ethos, to keep it from just being MMA with sticks (although that is....sort of what it is- one some levels!).
Folk interested only in other aspects of Bartitsu; the academic, cultural, social and self defence sides of things needn't get involved in any of this type of playing/sparring/testing, if that's not their interest-
BUT THE REAL NATURE OF BARTITSU AS A LIVING, (FIRE!) BREATHING COMBAT ART SHOULD ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AND KEPT CENTRAL TO ITS PRACTICE.
