I have just invented a term (how clever and witty I am! ;p ) :
'SELF PRETENCE'!!!
There it is;
this refers to a whole industry and a common pastime,
where people pretend that the reality of violence and criminal assault is very much different to what it really is.

Being uncomfortable with the often horrific and always brutal nature of real fights and attacks, they invent or accept a 'fantasy world', in which someone- who probably has never had a real fight- can effortlessly, quickly and cleanly (and probably even in an aesthetically pleasing manner) deal with a CRIMINAL who has every intention (and the ability) to rob them, beat them, stab them, rape them- HURT THEM AND TAKE WHAT IS THEIRS.
THAT'S what we're up against; not some 'cartoon villain'!
This reality, it seems, is a little to 'real' for many people....
