'Fights are sudden and unplanned so the ability to improvise effectively and efficiently is the primary thing. It's more about movement and internalizing what you study to the point you can improvise with it. That's the highest form of martial art or any art for that matter.
You don't need a process spelled out or to stick to anyone's dogma or "non-dogma" for that matter.
It's movement, vitality, and instinct you must follow, train and exercise. Styles and techniques can be great vehicles but are just tools themselves to assist in better movement and flow. Fighting is fighting.'
